Life lately has been quite chaotic, and I have just been telling myself to survive.
And, drink a lot of caffeine!
Here’s a recap of what life was like last week. Sit tight, this a long one!
Movers loaded our things (we packed everything, but it was still an all day process). Spencer stayed at the house the entire time to do a final cleaning while Jada, Cooper and I headed to a hotel to stay out of the way.
I had to resort to the Kindle Fire with a sleep deprived toddler. Hey, I was just trying to survive-no judging!
We closed on our old home in the morning by taking turns signing the documents (the obstacles of having a dog and no family near to watch him), then drove the almost 3 hours to another hotel.
After checking in, we rushed to our new home to do a walk through (with Cooper, of course).
Then, we all grabbed dinner and pretty much passed out.
Unfortunately, we found out we couldn’t close on our new home until Thursday afternoon, which also meant the movers wouldn’t arrive until Friday morning. Ugh. More hotel time.
While Spencer watched Jada and Cooper, I headed to the workout room for this workout.
My battery was recharged!
I also had packed a storage bin of necessities and busy time activities for Jada including: puzzles, Play doh, mini Minions, trucks, Snoopy, Teddy, sound machine, books, blanket, and coloring books.
Plus, more screen time on the Kindle Fire than I am proud of.
We again had to pull the separate closing times as we were lost as to what to do with Cooper (I’m quite protective of him, and we can’t leave him in the hotel by himself).
I got in a quick workout, then I signed my half of the documents while Spencer walked Cooper & Jada outside the office.
Afterwards, Spencer headed to the office to sign his half of the documents while I stayed with Jada & Cooper and picked up dinner for us from a nearby hotel.
We had packed quite a few healthy snacks to keep in our room at the Residence Inn, which is also pet friendly (with a fee), so we did a fairly good job of eating healthy during this time. We certainly took advantage of the breakfasts!
Spencer headed to the house to meet the movers while I got Jada breakfast and walked Cooper. Again, I was trying to keep them out of the way. The movers moved everything in less than 3 hours. We spent the day unpacking and organizing.
Side note: The previous owners left the home pretty dirty. Aren’t you supposed to clean?!! It totally grosses me out!
We headed to the Northwestern vs. Stanford football game because Spencer had recruits on campus. It honestly was a fun break from the house.
Jada was so excited about Willie the Wildcat, Northwestern’s mascot.
She was on a mission to find him the entire game!
More unpacking, cleaning, landscaping, etc. We are all exhausted at this point.
Of course, only my husband (extrovert that he is) would choose to host a BBQ for his coaching staff, families and a few close friends in the area on the 3rd day we are in the house. What?!
I think we had over 20 people visit and 3 dogs!
It was a lot of fun & the house is in need of a deep clean anyway, so the neat freak in me relaxed. I was soooooooo ready for bed afterwards though.
Monday (Labor Day):
Internet was set up. More yard work. Unpacking. A trip to Home Depot (we have a list that keeps growing of things to do) & finally, some local Oberweis ice cream.
And, there you go. Whew!
Moving is never a smooth transition and even harder with a toddler, while pregnant, and no family nearby. But, we are grateful for the opportunity and excited to explore the Glenview/Evanston area more. Keep your suggestions coming!
Have you moved often?
How do you prepare for long hotel stays?
