Here are several reasons why we choose to workout together, and how it helps our marriage.
1. Similar Physical Goals
Exercise has always a been part of our lifestyles, even before we meant. Spencer & I were very active as children & went on to be collegiate athletes. So, it’s completely natural for us to want to train and keep our fitness levels high. The only competition is being a better version of ourselves.
2. Spend Time Together
During the baseball season, Spencer’s time is very limited. So, we have to make our time together count.
What better way to make use of our free time than tackling a workout together?!
In the first picture above, he and I had just completed the following workout.
- Run 800m
- 15 burpees
- 25 squats
- 15 push-ups
- 25 sit-ups
There is no way I would’ve pushed as hard without him by my side, sweat stains and all!
3. Clear Minds
After a workout session, we have more energy and patience to tackle the day. We can get frustrations out by lifting heavy weights & running sprints.
4. Meal Prep is Easier
We only prepare one meal and our toddler even eats it.
We choose to train and fuel our bodies in an optimal manner, so there is no temptation to stray if our plates look the same.
Do we allow ourselves indulgences? Of course! But, overall it’s easier to eat healthy when we do it together.
5. Our Entertainment Budget is in Sync
Dining out isn’t appealing or economical. Taking a toddler to a restaurant is far from relaxing! Movies can get pricey, then there’s the cost of a sitter. We’d rather invest our money in our home gym.
Remember, when Spencer got me bumper plates for my birthday? That was a perfect gift.
It’s what I wanted, and I use them often. Recently, I got him a pair of Reebok Sprint TR shoes. Whether it’s exercise equipment or clothing, it’s usually a winner between us.
6. We Feel Closer
We enjoy the process of planning the workout together, but we love the feeling of teamwork as we complete the workout, helping each other push a little harder than if we were alone, and achieving goals simultaneously.
7. Laying Groundwork
As I mentioned in No. 1, exercise is part of our lifestyle. In turn, we are laying the groundwork for our daughter with the hope that she sees the benefits of exercising with her family.
And, understand it can be both fun and rewarding!
