I haven’t done an update on Jada since she turned one year old in June.
In the midst of moving, Jada turned 15 months, but I failed to write a post–and she’s 16 months old now! #momfail
We found a new pediatrician in the Champaign-Urbana area and were able to schedule Jada’s well-check. I loved our pediatrician in Omaha, so it will be tough to match her.
Jada measured at 32.5″ (93rd percentile) and weighed 26.4 lbs (94th percentile). No wonder everyone is surprised by her age–she’s on the tall side.
Exploration and curiosity. She wants to open every cupboard. Poor out the contents of all containers. Climb all the things!
She’s athletic for her age (a quote from an exercise science professor, not my own biased opinion even though you guys know I want to hear it!), but I still have to play defense. We taught her to go down the stairs on her belly, but now she thinks it’s fun to slide down them on her bottom, and she’s not quite coordinated enough for that.
Textures are very interesting too. Her auntie Angela sent us items to use in the water table now that the weather is cooler. So fun!
She also likes to push it around. #CrossFitBaby
Teddy bear. She loves Teddy! He was a gift from Grammy and Jada carries him with her always and calls him, “D”!
Here, she is reading Where’s Spot?, a favorite book to Teddy and Cooper.
Geese. I know geese are kind of random, but there are lots of geese near us, although they are starting to fly south, and Jada loves to watch them fly. She even says, “honk, honk!” when we ask her what they say. Bonus, we frequently read, On the Night You Were Born, and low and behold geese are in the book. It’s Jada’s favorite page to look at.
Pacifier. She loves her pacifier. I’m not quite sure how to break this habit, but for now. If she’s tired, I shove that in her mouth!
Playgrounds. The park near us is amazing, but I HAVE to stop and let her play, or a big-time tantrum happens.
So, I try to walk Cooper a mile or so, and then turn towards the park to play. Slides and swings. She’s all about them.
She is a good eater still–I hear they go in phases. Breakfast is usually part of a banana with yogurt or pancakes. Then, I give her Cheerios to snack on during our morning walk with Cooper. She also loves turkey bacon and eggs.
Lunch is sometimes a sun butter and jelly sandwich with strawberries or leftovers from dinner.
Dinner is usually a protein like chicken or turkey burgers, sweet potatoes and peas. She snacks 2-3 times a day depending on the size of the previous meal and our choices are usually applesauce, Cheerios or puffs, string cheese, and fruit & veggie pouches. I’m not overly restrictive with her, so ice cream is a treat too.
She is a happy girl if she gets enough sleep during the day. Right now, she is trying to figure out if she needs 1 or 2 naps a day. She starts losing steam at 10:30-11 a.m., so I’m not sure whether I try to hold off till after lunch and merge the two?
She usually lets me know.
At night, she usually sleeps from 7:30-8 to about 6-6:30 in the morning. On occasion, she’ll let out a cry or have a rough night, but she sleeps well more often than not.
Jada loves to help me feed Cooper. She’s gets so excited! (And, so does Coop!)
Only once did she taste it and decided it was “Uuuuck”. So, no more of that…hopefully.
With the move, I’m learning about the area’s offerings for toddlers. I worry (you do that as a mom automatically, right?) about her getting enough socialization with other kiddos. And, although I love that she likes to be around me, I don’t want her to be overly attached to me.
I found a wonderful story time group at a local library that meets twice a week. I’m so excited about it, even though some of the activities are a little advanced for Jada. I’m just pumped to get her around more kiddos.
And, how about this activity wall?! Love it.
Of course, I just want to the best for her and offer her as many opportunities to grow as possible. That’s we all want as parents.
