As a personal trainer, one of THE most common questions I get is, “What machine do I use to get rid of my stomach fat?”
Okay, here’s the deal: Abs are made in the kitchen.
You have heard this, yes?
But, some individuals do NOT want to hear that.
So, while I point out exercises that can help strengthen the core, I make sure those individuals at least hear me state that diet makes the biggest impact on exposing ab muscles -whether or not they actually listen is another story!
The picture above is from last summer, pre-baby, where my diet and supplements were pretty spot on.
I usually don’t have a defined mid-section, because I’m simply not that strict with my diet which you likely noticed if you read What I’m Eating Lately.
I like a variety of foods including some treats. Accordingly, my “six-pack” will stay hidden. I DO have a strong core and have recovered from carrying Miss Jada around for 9 months.
But, my visible ab muscles are hibernating for now.
I also like to tell myself I’m holding on to a little extra, pinch-able softness because of breastfeeding. Humor me?
While sets of crunches and planks will strengthen your mid-section, they will not reveal your abs.
You have to lose body fat in order to see all your hard work!
And, when we lose that lovely body fat, it is all over. No spot reduction here. Yup, bah-bye boobs.
What exercise myths have you heard lately?
