Pregnancy Update: 27 Weeks

Didn’t I just announce that we were expecting? Now, I’m days away from the third trimester!

26 weeks-belly

To stay consistent with the produce comparison, our baby went from an egg plant to a cucumber in the last week. Here is a belly comparison of 6 weeks of growth.

Into the 27th week of pregnancy we go! Taking a cue from my fellow mommy to be Katie, I thought I’d share a few updates.

How am I feeling?

Still feeling good! Everything I have been reading tells me this is the best trimester, but I felt great during my first trimester too-just needed more sleep! I’m preparing for the third trimester to be a little more difficult as I will be GROWING and likely uncomfortable.

Baby stats:

15 inches and 2.2 lbs. That is still small, but I can feel her moving around a ton now!  Hearing is developing, and she is becoming accustomed to our voices. Taste buds are developed, so she’ll let me know when she’s not a fan of something.

No aversions really–I gravitate towards healthy foods first and give in to some temptations like jelly beans (it IS Easter season) and Jello pudding. I bought a bunch of single serving yogurts at Costco, so the snack monster doesn’t get the best of me!

Trader Joe

My doctor expects me to gain on the higher end of 25-35 lbs since I was “lean” to begin with. I think I’ve put on around 15 lbs so far? Being on the high end of that range is a bit scary, but it’s not like I’m going to restrict myself. Now is not the time to worry about my body composition!

Belly button:
It’s still an innie. I think I may freak out just a bit when it becomes an outie!

Wedding ring:

No swelling, so it comes on an off easily. I take it off quite a bit–especially when I’m training or leading a class.

Stretch marks:

None. My mom didn’t get any either, so I’m hoping genetics work in my favor!

Starting the nesting process:

My best friend generously gave me her crib, so that item was the first thing in the baby’s room. Lately, I have been scouring Craigslist for a few items and have had some MAJOR success!

I got this Diaper Dude bag that both Spencer and I will use for a great price. It retails for almost $60. Gender neutral, so daddy can haul it around too!

And, I found an entire bedding set with a mobile, window sham, and art in fabulous condition. Here’s a peek at a portion of it:

Nursery art neutral

I’ll show you the rest once the baby’s room is closer to completion.

Finally, Spencer REALLY wanted a recliner or glider for the baby’s room, and I got lucky and found one–barely used for a fraction of the retail price!

Score! Next up, the coveted BOB stroller. Oh yes, you will be mine!

Your turn:
1. Parents, what are some must-haves I should be looking for?
2. When will my feet disappear from view? (place your bets now!)

  1. Video baby monitor!!!! A MUST!!!! You can see the baby even at night! I didn’t get stretch marks either, but it’s the second pregnancy that does the damage…. my abs will never look the same, muscles are kinda separated & my poor belly button now kinda pushes out! lol Oh well!!!

    • Oh great suggestion! Are those pricey?! I’m sure they are worth it! 🙂 The body is an amazing thing isn’t it? The transformation we go through to house a little life!

      • They are a bit pricey, but a total investment! My girls are 4 & almost 3 & I’m still using them (yes, I have 2) I plan on using them til the girls go off to college! lol A few of your friends/family members would be happy to “go in” on one for your shower! Or, the second one I got off craigslist!

  2. I am a huge believer that one can outfit one’s life with a baby for a fraction of the cost, so kudos to you for your success in that! (We scored the first 2 years of clothes for free from Craig’s List- barely used and many with tags, a free new crib, and more!)

    My “I really enjoy” list:

*cloth wipes and homemade solution (my mom made the wipes, we can control the moisture level, and they are so soft)-

*Graco SnugRide 35 (we all like it)

*musical instruments (Susanna used to keep a steady drum beat inside of me 2 and 4 count for 20+ minutes at a time. We made some instruments and found a few at a thrift store. We’re making more soon!)

*BOB Ironman running stroller (We’re awaiting this and we talk about it daily based on the reviews and our desire to get out there!)

  5. Hillary says:

You will LOVE your BOB stroller. Best thing we have EVER put money towards. We use it constantly. It’s the best jogging stroller, plus it navigates easily in stores.

  6. You look great! I’m impressed you can still see your feet. I haven’t been able to see mine since about 24 weeks (perks of having baby #3??).

As for must haves — swaddling blankets were a lifesaver for both of my kids – it’s pretty much the only thing they both loved. Oh, and the Moby Wrap! This time I bought a co-sleeper that I can attach to the bed so I don’t actually have to get OUT of bed for middle of the night feedings for the first 3 months (or so). I’ve tripped numerous times trying to get up to get the baby in the dark! That said, every baby is different, so as long as you have the basics you will be good to go. You’ll quickly discover what your baby loves and hates, which makes me very thankful for Amazon Prime!
Michelle @ Crazy*Running*Legs recently posted..Move Monday: Not Your Mama’s Walking WorkoutMy Profile

    • Thank you Michelle! Because this is my first, i’m sure my body is still learning to adapt! 🙂 I have heard about the Moby–good stuff?! I know I will want hands free options!

  7. You look fantastic! Smart move on the gender neutral diaper bag! Never would’ve thought of that one!

  8. Baby snugli, like a Baby Bjorn, or a Moby wrap. Check out your local baby shop for lots of baby-wearing options. You will want to walk and get out of the house, but not always is the stroller easy to get round in.

Music player. Find one you can plug your Mp3 player (or ipod) into for soft music in baby’s room. A lifesaver for us when the kids were wee, very relaxing for everyone. I highly suggest trying out some Reiki sleep music, or meditation music.

MyBrestFriend nursing pillow. – hands down the best pillow I ever used as I got used to nursing, with my first child. Also think about stocking up on bra pads and lanolin cream. Lansinoh is the best, and doesn’t need to be wiped off before baby eats.

We did not buy many of the BOB accessories, but did find the drink holder, car seat adapter (so you can clip on the back facing bucket seat easily) and the weather shield really awesome. I also bought a playard bug net that fit over the BOB really well for those buggy days. We love our BOB. I am going to cry the day we sell it, I think.

Toys R Us has these awesome scented bags for diapers. Great for on the go if you can’t dispose of that diaper right away. I think you can get biodegradable ones too.

Chew Beads Once baby is a bit older 9and teething), you can get awesome silicone jewelry for them to play with, gnaw on etc. They are quite fashionable too! I loved mine (but cannot find them right now to wear *sadface*).

Be well, be kind to yourself, and keep truckin’! Very excited for you.

    • Caroline your list rocks!! Thank you so much!! So, I definitely need a wrap or baby carrier of some sort, don’t I? I’m going to look over your list in more detail!! THANK YOU!

  9. Lots of love to you beautiful fellow mommy! You are looking fabulous at 27 weeks! I am so excited for you and you are SO lucky you have found some great deals! I have been looking on craigslist for certain things but no luck!!

    Happy Tuesday! <3

  10. I gained 32 pounds with Em so don’t worry 😉 Also, for the BOB, keep an eye on I got ours $80 off on there and they have free shipping! Saved a ton of money and I know we got it around this time last year.

For everyday use I love our City Mini stroller. Again, got it on special on that site. The BOB is great but it’s annoying for all the time. The City Mini has a one hand fold that is a lifesaver! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

Also, the Aden + Anais swaddle blankets are the best. 🙂

    • Thanks for the reassurance Madeline! and the website reference! I have heard the Aden+Anais swaddlers are amazing. Must get this!

  11. Looking good!!! And seems like you are scoring some good deals. The “gender neutral” diaper bag is a good idea. Something that I used *a lot* is a Pack n Play. I bought one from a friend to keep at my parents house and then one for us when we would go to my inlaws. And wouldn’t you know, my child preferred to sleep in it rather than her crib so I ended up setting it up in her room. The crib collected dust 🙂

  12. You look great! I’m right about the same place as you and up 17 pounds and I worry about hitting that higher end, but I think we’ll be fine! 🙂

We bought a gender neutral diaper bag as well with the thought that the hubby can carry things. And great job scoring deals! Baby stuff is expensive and I’m loving the hand-me-downs that I’ve been offered! Saves us a ton of money!

We registered for a Bob. FYI – Amazon has them cheapest! 🙂

  13. You’re such a cute pregnant. My feet were gone a week or so ago, lol. I SO want the BOB stroller too!
    Kerri O recently posted..#Whole30 Week 2My Profile

    • OH thank you Kerri! Yes, the BOB continues to come up as the best gift. Also, I’m intrigued by the belly wrap you have for post baby? I think I need that!

  14. you are still very tiny! Do people you haven’t told your pregnant know?

    • OH thank you! You look outstanding too Jenny! When I’m in workout clothes, my belly is obvious, but with winter clothing, I can hide quite a bit–or I used to! Now, my belly is pretty obvious! 🙂

  15. I’m flabbergasted that your abs haven’t budged! I’m trying to dig mine out still! Maybe a little bun is the trick?? Psyche! I’ll let you handle this round girl 😉

  16. It’s been 12 years since I had a baby, so I don’t know what to suggest!! Things have changed so much in the past decade. I look around for baby shower gifts from time to time, and I’m not even sure what some of those things are!!

But you look great, and I’m glad you’re focusing on staying healthy!! I bet you won’t even gain the higher end of that spectrum!

  17. I can’t believe you’re already 27 weeks! Crazy how fast it goes by when I’m not the one pregnant 🙂
The BOB is an absolute must! Love mine and use it all the time. I attended at meetup and received a Graco Snugride Click Connect 40 car seat to review and I loved it! Although I haven’t used it for my child since we had already switched to the front facing seat but I’m looking forward to using it for our next baby 🙂 When that time comes! You can read my review here is your interested.

  18. You are adorable!!! A video monitor is a MUST! You can tell when the baby is crying because it is up and when it is just fussing and going back to sleep! We LOVE ours!! My BOB has been a huge blessing!

  19. Iowamom says:

Here’s my two cents even though my kids are way out of the baby stage. Put a little table/nightstand next to the rocking chair for kleenex, burp clothes, your phone, etc. If the baby is sleeping or eating and you’re both comfy you won’t want to get up! 🙂 You look amazing for 27 weeks and your feet might not disappear. I have a friend who has 3 kids and she saw her feet all the way until the end with each pregnancy. It’s all in how your carry your baby. You’re in the home stretch now!

    • Great call! I can imagine, I won’t want to move if baby is occupied! Home stretch is right! Yikes! 🙂

  20. If you plan to breastfeed, I would suggest a breast pump. I think most insurance companies will cover the expense. I used to pump so that my husband could feed my daughter before bed. It was a nice break for me (and my boobs). Also a carrier, like Boba/Ergo or a Moby wrap. They work great especially when you have a cranky baby. Also they are great when you are out running errands, you will have both hands/arms free and you don’t have to worry about strangers wanted to touch your baby 🙂
    Natalie recently posted..XTrain: TabataciseMy Profile

    • I have been meaning to call my insurance company about that–I’m so hoping the breast pump is covered!! Baby wrap sounds like a must too! 🙂

  21. You look adorable! 🙂 Lucky you about the stretch marks…use cocoa butter daily anyway just in case! I regret that I wasn’t on top of that!

  22. You need some SWADDLES and a sleep sheep or gentle giraffe!!! My baby loves the white noise and it really helps him sleep. Also, TAKE PEOPLE’S HAND ME DOWN SWING or VIBRATING CHAIR!!! Serious lifesavers.
I am so sad… I had zero stretch marks until labour! I guess I pushed like a champ and gave myself some. Now my goal is to get serious abs so the marks are undecipherable 🙂 and I think you won’t be able to see your feet at 9.5 months!!! You look fabulous!!! I pretend that we are the same person and I gained 32 pounds, with a lot coming in the last month (but not in an overwhelming way. I remember being nervous at around 6 months… by 9 months, I didn’t mind the weight so much because your baby is growing like mad!!!) Okay so I just wrote a novel. You rock, sistah.

    • Oh shoot! To avoid stretch marks the whole time! You must’ve pushed him out like a champ! 🙂 THANK YOU for the suggestions–keep them coming. I also pretend we are the same person! 🙂 And, all about hand me downs!! Yes, yes!

  24. Congrats on adding to your family!! The best thing ever was the baby backpack…it was definitely handy when my daughter was a baby, but when she got older, I used it for training…I’d be training for a hike or a climb and I’d put her in the pack and we’d be off…of course, it got to be pretty funny when she’d lean over my shoulder and say things like “can we stop now?” or “are we there yet?”

I subbed a class recently for a friend of mine who teaches a class called “Mommy on the Move” – it’s in a shopping mall, which opens early in the winter so people can walk, and women come with their babies in strollers. Picture this – a CrossFit style workout, in the mall, with kids! It is not only a good workout but hilarious – I had the best time teaching it, as part of the job is that I get to watch the kids while the moms do burpees or whatever it is they’re doing at the moment.

    • Thank you Monica!! And, that Mommy and Me class sounds amazing!! I may have to develop that for the Omaha area!!!

  25. I love that you are six weeks ahead of me- it makes it so much easier to know what’s coming up and now you’ve given me a to do and to buy list! Your bump is too cute, I’m hoping mine looks that good when I start showing for real!

  27. My kids are almost 6 and 9 and the one baby item we still have is our BOB. We still use it at Disneyland etc and have completely abused it! I cannot believe how it has held up, worth every penny!

  28. The breast pump is a must and I know it sounds weird but if insurance doesn’t cover it, you can find those on craigs list too (just have to buy new tubes/parts). The pump itself is essentially just a motor. I got mine for $75 on Craigslist and the lady gave me a ton of milk bags and stuff for free! total score.

Also, register for an Amazon Moms subscription. You can get practically everything you need delivered to you from amazon at a discount (and free shipping).

    Looking good mama!
