It’s a…belly!

Happy New Year! Several of you asked for belly pics. It’s tough to see your body changing-but as long as this type of belly is considered “cute”, I’ll share my progress occasionally!

Week 17_belly shot_2

Week 17_belly shot_3

My brother’s girlfriend made me the cutest card–which is also a countdown sheet. She’s super talented, an interior designer, so maybe I can pick her brain for the nursery!

Baby Card Congrats
Spencer and I had an appointment this morning and heard the baby’s heartbeat. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of that sound. 140 bpm at 17.5 weeks. We find out if we are having a boy or girl on January 21st!

I hope you all celebrated the New Year with loved ones. Did you do any reflection? Set goals? Resolutions?

I didn’t set specific goals or even think about a race calendar. My primary goal right now is to have a fit, healthy pregnancy, so I can greet a healthy, little one in early June.

So, tell me, what are you looking forward to in 2013?!

  6. Baby bellys are cute! You’re still looking fab as ever! I made a bunch of goals for 2013. Got a whole lot to work for! That’s great you have an interior decorator in the family. I’d love to have one in mine! Exchange her services for your personal training services ;)

  7. You are going to be such a cute pregnant lady! It’s going to be fun watching your progress and keeping up with your workouts- good for furture reference for me! Resolutions- lower body fat, complete a set of ten pull ups, and run two halves- does that equal a whole? Happy Wednesday lady!

    • Thank you Elle! I really like your resolutions–body comp is a much better form of measurement than weight! And for those pull-ups!!

  8. based on that heartrate, I’m guessing BOY! :) Both my babies were girls and never near that low… You’re such a cute prego!

    • That’s what everyone is saying! :) I had no idea a low HR might indicate that. At 12 weeks, it was at 165–I just figured as baby got bigger, the HR decreased? :)

  9. So cute! Love the health and fitness and strength and balance with which you’re entering this pregnancy, Jess! Congrats again! :D

  11. SO CUTE! I also guess boy based on the HR. Hearing your baby’s heart beat is an amazing sound and experience :)
Madeline @ Food Fitness and Family recently posted..WIAWMy Profile

    • So, I’m learning that HR’s differ for the sexes? Interesting! It seriously is amazing–especially when I don’t feel movement yet–the heart beat is so reassuring!

  12. Congratulations! You barely have a a belly and look too cute! I’m going to guess it’s a boy. I have two boys myself and my doctor always told me boys have slightly slower heart rates than girls. I have no idea if that is true ;)

  13. Oh I love it!!!! Sooo stinking cute! That sound never gets old!

  14. Adorable! I can *hear* the excitement in your writing!

As for goals for the new year…. I set a few!

I want to run 500 miles, continue my yoga/gravity/zumba to get stronger and more flexible and continue to eat Paleo to reduce body fat even more.

In 2012 I finished 14 5Ks and a 1 miler AND lost 90 lbs. Can’t wait to see what I can accomplish this year!

I signed up for a 10k in the Spring but I don’t have a time goal, just to finish :)

    • oh gosh Breanna–my belly easily could be full of cookies too! We hosted a party Jan 1, so today I am resetting my system with healthy eats and a good sweat! And, CONGRATS to you!! :)

  23. Very cute!!! Love the countdown sheet.

  24. I have to admit I don’t do a lot of resolution setting for the New Year but like you I am hoping, wishing, and praying for a healthy little one in late June! And my sister-in-law got engaged so I am really looking forward to that in August, babies first trip! :) You are looking great, I have to admit, the changing body is a bit of a shock at times but if my belly must start sticking out I’m glad it’s my little baby doing it! ;)

  27. LOVE!!

  28. Melissa Halerz says:

That is a tiny little belly! In 2013 I plan on running 2 half marathons, 4 races all together and getting my fitness certification so I can start to instruct classes!

    • Oh thank you-I’m 5’8″ so maybe I have some extra space? :) What certifications are you getting?! I always learn something with a new cert! :)

      • Melissa Halerz says:

I’m not sure! What do you suggest? I’m going to get my CPR certification but I was thinking NCCPT but I’m not sure what other certifications are out there.

        • I wrote a post about it if you check out my CSCS tab. It depends on your employers really. Some group class instruction doesn’t require an overall cert-just in that specific class. But, for personal training, you’ll need something!

  29. i’m so excited for your tummy. I think baby BP will be doing crossfit in your belly and come out super fit!
    ;-)

    • Thank you so much Lindsay! CrossFit baby indeed! I think I may need to order some baby Healthy Bites! Or, at least your protein packed ones for me!!

  30. Great picture! I love the belly pics. I remember when I was pg with #1 I felt HUGE at 20 weeks…then I looked back at 40 weeks and realized I was tiny. It’s great perspective! Can’t wait to hear the news if it’s either a boy or girl.

My 2013 goals include my third marathon, a few half marathons but mostly just staying strong as I approach 39 in a few months. :)

  31. You look AMAZING Jess! If you hadn’t announced your pregnancy, I would think you just a really big meal! (Good lord, I have a bigger belly than you! LOL!) Can’t wait to see more belly pics!
Ashley recently posted..Urie Christmas 2012My Profile

    • Aw, thanks Ash! It likely is a combo of holiday eating and “baking a baby”! :) I’m kind of in that phase of “did she gain weight?” until that sucker really pops–but i’m very content with it remaining smaller for the time being!! ;)

  32. Oh honey. You are too cute. I’ve had food babies create bigger bellies than that!

  33. I’m looking forward to the changes that 2013 has to bring! I’m only in high school right now, so A LOT of changes happen in these 4 years. Can’t wait to see what 2013 has in store for me! Also, congratulations on being 17 weeks. You are simply glowing :)

  34. Congratulations Jess! You look adorable….and I look forward to watching your progress during this exciting time! I have a grandbaby on the way about a month behind your sweet little one….
I have my opinion on the sex of your little one….but I’ll keep it to myself not to spoil your surprise…lol
    Big hugs to you!

    • Thank you Melissa! There have been quite a few guesses in the comments above! :) Is this your first Grandbaby??

      • Jess…This will be our 2nd Grand child! We have a grandson that will turn 2 this month…and that is who will be the Big brother…. :c)
Those guesses are spot on~ :c)

  35. I LOVE belly shots so thanks for indulging us. :-) Smart planning for the year. Stay healthy, fit, and happy. Enjoy it Jess!

  36. Ah, we find out the gender on the 17th! I’m so excited to finally know! Our little duckling’s heart rate is always around 150 bpm and super strong…. It is an amazing sound, isn’t it?

I’m pretty anxious for my bump to pop… I’m ready to look pregnant, not puffy lol.

You guys are going to have such a gorgeous baby!! So excited for you!! :D

  39. Your belly is so tiny and cute. And a healthy baby heartbeat is the BEST sound ever. I could listen to it forever when pregnant. My son’s hb started faster and got slower later in the pregnancy. My daughter’s started slower and got faster later in the pregnancy. I never found out what I was having at the u/s though, so it was a guessing game for 9 months!

As for 2013 goals, I am going to finally get the courage to sign up for a half-marathon. I have no doubt in my ability to run one, maybe not fast (I tend to be in the 9:30-10 min pace in races but I am trying to get faster!), but I can finish it. I think it’s just an athlete mentality I gained from playing softball all my life – I KNOW I can do whatever I put my mind to. Aside from that, I’d like to focus more on what I eat, try to lose about 20lbs, and try to balance running and strength since I tend to prefer to just get on the treadmill. Now if I can get over this flu virus that has had me down since NYE, that would be a great start!

    • Isn’t it a reassuring sound to hear?! :) Good for you for signing up and committing!! It doesn’t matter how fast you run–runner are all shapes, sizes and speeds!! You will learn a lot from your race too! :) Hope you feel better!

  40. You look super cute! I am so excited for yall!
