The Ugly Sweater Run in Omaha was so much fun despite the chilly temps-but it’s December after all, right?
Objective one: Find a fun outfit to run in. I discovered the ELF hat at Michael’s and went from there.
I got so many compliments on the shoes, which were really socks that I altered to fit over my RealFlex TR’s.
I was looking forward to this race for weeks and couldn’t wait to people watch and run! I met up with my elf friends and our reindeer! You may remember Jess & Bailey from the Mud Factor Run we did this summer.
A quick elfish pose at the start.
Look at all those festive runners!!
How cute was this look?! DIY holiday outfit.
You’ll note the abundance of mustaches in the pics as there was a prize for the best one too.
Santa started the race with a background of Christmas carols!
It was cold (34*) but that didn’t damper our spirits. Throughout the race, there were stops designed for photo ops and even a hot chocolate fuel station.
There wasn’t snow on the ground but that didn’t stop the race directors from bringing in snow and trees along the course!
Runners were generous, offering to take pictures of each other along the course. This wasn’t a timed event–that wasn’t the point. It was about being active and having a fun 5k!
Then, we saw our friend, Buddy the ELF! Smiling’s my favorite!
My fingertips were pretty numb, but honestly, I didn’t care. This was a blast!
Ummm, I wasn’t trying to fondle Santa…
Post race treats included hot chocolate and Sam Adam’s winter lager. The beer line was looooong.
If you get a chance to run this event, I highly recommend it! Great energy and organization. I even saw dogs along the course and was so disappointed I didn’t bring my Cooper. Next year!
And, if you look closely, you’ll see we actually did get snow!
