New Holiday Travel Workout

This festive time of year is full of events, activities, and to-do lists leaving our schedules packed! Then, throw some travel and that leaves some of us searching for ways to stay fit and active.

We will be traveling during the holidays too. I thought that many of you may be in our situation, so I created a Holiday Travel Workout that requires no equipment as part of the GNC Fall Series.

Holiday Travel Workout

Prisoner Lunges:
Reebok CrossFit TriBlend Prisoner lunge
Hands overhead maintaining a solid core while performing reverse lunges.

Burpees:
Reebok CrossFit TriBlend burpees
Kind of looks like the worm or a belly flop!

Squats:
Reebok CrossFit TriBlend squats
Hips at or below knees, chest up.

What I’m wearing:
Reebok Tri-Blend CrossFit shirt
CrossFit Sports Bra
CrossFit board shorts
RealFlex Fusion TR’s
Candy Cane socks from the $1 Store ;)

What else can we do to be prepare for travel?

1. Pack plenty of healthy snacks.

2. Bring plenty of workout gear. I usually pack this before I even think about “normal’ clothes.

  2. I pinned the travel workout–looks like a good one! Thanks for sharing–and as always, thanks for showing how to do the moves properly. After watching your push-up video, I have been “starting over” with them, and concentrating on developing good form (my form was apparently terrible!).

    • Ha ha! I used to keep them long–they grow so fast- but as you know, they get in the way!! :) More functional this way (but prolly less sexy!)

  5. We typically travel for the holidays but since we moved, we get to stay put on Christmas! Find a race where you are going. That will ensure some movement. Even if you just enlist the fam to walk a 5k.

  6. Nice workout! I love circuit workouts that don’t require any equipment. Sometimes it is hard to find or even hoard dumbells at the gym. I try to take at least 1-2 days when I’m visiting family during the holidays with no social media and no blogging! I’m surprised how all the little minutes here and there add up over the day.
    Always layer clothing when you’re flying. Sometimes the planes are hot, other times like a fridge. And wear your biggest shoes – It saves lots of room in the suitcase! I always put plastic grocery bags in my bag too in case I don’t have an opportunity to wash my clothes before heading home -I don’t like smelly workout clothes touching my regular apparel. :)

  7. I always like to treat myself to the movies during the holidays. I get so busy with commitments and friends/family … that I need a break now and then. I love going to the movie theater alone (my friends think it is weird, haha) But seriously, it is a treat! I get to pick the movie, enjoy a show, sit where I want, popcorn for me, no one needs me for 2 hours, and I am taken to a fictional world :)

    My best travel advice is lately to bring along one of those Brita water filter bottles so you can keep up your hydration easily with tap water and not have to buy so much water on the go! :)

  9. Thanks so much for all your fantastic quick and practical workouts!! You are a blessing to all of us who don’t have a gym :) I have one quick question though….when doing moves that involve the plank position, burpees or push-ups I have been dealing with wrist discomfort. Is there another way to modify or will my wrists begin to adapt to the pressure? I love the moves because of the core work, but sometimes I have to slow down because my wrists can’t handle the pressure. I usually just hop on the treadmill and finish with sprints if my wrists are bugging me. Any suggestions are so appreciated and Merry Christmas to you!!!

    • You’re welcome Betsy! I understand the wrist pain, on planks perform them on your elbows. For Burpees and push-ups, its a little tricky. you could rotate your fingers in or out to relieve some stress on your wrists or reduce the reps. Do make sure your hand are below your shoulders and not too far out in front as that can put stress on wrists too.

    I make time for myself during the holidays by getting in a nice and sweaty gym sesh eachday.

    My best travel advice is to 1)bring earplus, you never know when you will need them 2) have healthy, travel friendly snacks ready to go : bananas, nuts, canned sardines and tuna, bottled water!

  11. I am intimidated by the gym and by heavy weights, so I attempted numerous DVD workouts and never commit; too complicated. I love that your workouts can really be done anywhere, are practical and are helping me get back in the fitness groove! Thank you and happy holidays

  12. I love a good travel workout. Now help me out with this…. how do you go about working out if you are a guest at someone’s home and nobody else works out? I always feel weird going to my boyfriend’s family’s home for long breaks and going on a run because 1. I don’t know the area and 2. I just feel plain weird!

    • That’s a tricky one. I understand and know I’m lucky to have a spouse who is so active. I think if they know how important it is to you, they won’t think twice about it–you never know who you will inspire along the way too! ;)

    We’ll be at my mom’s for christmas eve and my in laws christmas day, I plan on squeezing in a circuit workout at some point on both days, but don’t want to lug any equipment with me.

  16. Great workout! I love your at home workouts and have done a few while traveling. I’m way more into fitness than anyone else in my family (besides my husband) so while visiting family I’m usually solo. The hubby likes to rest while on “vacation” I’m hoping to get in some circuit workouts like the one you shared here :-)

  20. This has been awesome to do before my workout classes! I’ve been using it as a warmup and some of the other home workouts as the same! It’ s SO hard keeping in shape during the holidays! Running is getting hard due to colder weather.
