After posting 5 Tips for CrossFit Beginners, there were comments and tweets about the cost of joining a CrossFit Box. Many of us are on tight budgets and the added cost of a Box can put undue financial strain on our lives.
Ultimate Sandbag (or set of dumb bells)
Coach and I did this workout over the weekend before he tackled a full day of recruiting. Summer really isn’t down time at all for a college coach.
Here’s the workout:
50 overhead walking lunges
50 push-up jacks
50 plank toe taps
50 high knee jump ropes (each leg)
Keep your arms overhead the entire time whether you are using the Ultimate Sandbag or dumb bells. I had to stop a couple times to regroup. You want core work? Do this.
50 push-up jacks followed by 10 burpees.
Again, I had to stop a couple times to get through this.
These are deceptively hard, but I love them because my upper body is firing while my abs are actively engaged.

This workout took us 20 minutes. We had considered doing it twice…that didn’t happen. After a dynamic warm-up and CrossFit the day before, our upper bodies were fried! If you don’t have a sandbag, dumb bells will work as a fine substitute!
Pre-WOD ProSculpt works for me.
I don’t like to eat a lot before a workout, but that’s just me. Coach, on the other hand, needs to have something solid or he can’t complete the workout at the highest intensity.
This resulted in a chicken salad with greens, fresh veggies and a mound-o-hummus. Physio-burn packet on the side. I have salad for one of my meals every day usually, especially during the summer.
On that note, I don’t like almond butter. I said it. Peanut butter and sunflower seed butter are delish, but almond butter on its own, is not that appealing.
