2012 CrossFit Games: Terminology

Don’t you love CrossFit lingo?

It’s hard for me to stifle my inner teenager…who am I kidding?! That’s me present tense.

CrossFit Terms
“Snatch”
“WOD”
“Box”
“Thruster”
“Double-Under”
“Clean & Jerk”

One of the events on Sunday was the Double Banger, but we’ll come back to that.

My buddies & I joined Reebok again for an Anywhere WOD. Yeah! Totally speaking my language!

Reebok outfitted us in CrossFit apparel, and I have to say I am in love. Each piece is constructed with functional movement in mind (remember this post). In CrossFit, you never know what your coach will create for a WOD, so the clothing has to be versatile like the tank top and shorts below.

We began our WOD led by our fearless leaders, Blair and Lauren outside the Hyatt Long Beach.

Our weekend was full of energy and events [read lack of sleep].  I was ever so thankful for Meta-Ignite to help power me through our workouts.

We broke into teams of 7 and completed each of the 7 exercises to finish the WOD.

Stair jumps, dips, sit-ups, fence toss, bear crawl, walking lunges & the run.

Go until your teammate tags you, then run to the next station.

Tina and I decided to be twinsies. She is one fit chick–has been participating in CrossFit since December.

The teams tallied total reps for points, and I gave the CrossFit LA coach some tips for improving his biceps.

After the WOD, we refueled with lunch. But, first Tina and I had to get our pose on.

Thanks Tina!

Enough of our own sweat. Let’s get back to The CrossFit Games!

GNC & Michael Mauro

The GNC booth was a hopping place as they distributed supplements for CrossFit fans.

It was standing room only at the stadium for the Double Banger.

After this WOD, athletes got a brief reprieve.  Then, they brought the women onto the stadium floor to announce the final event (which the men would complete too).

It would be an elimination of three separate WOD’s.
18 athletes remained.
3 would be eliminated each WOD.
12 would be remain for the final WOD.

The teams competed prior to the individual finals. As a fan of team sports, I loved seeing these competitions!

Their assignment: DO THE GIRLS! (See what I mean about CrossFit? *immature snickers*)
Elizabeth
Fran
Isabel
Diane
Grace
Karen
Dips as part of ‘Elizabeth’
Pull-ups as part of ‘Fran’

Each team member completed one portion of the this WOD before the next could start.

The female team members completed Elizabeth, Fran and Isabel. The male team members completed Diane, Grace and Karen.

Check back later as I discuss the final WOD and amazing post Games coverage!

  1. I am seriously so jealous of all y’all that went! But, you totally have me way interested in Crossfit now!

  2. If you haven’t seen the video of Bob Harper talking about decoding crossfit language on the Games website, go watch it! It is hilarious.

  3. Awesome! Looks like you had a great time – and what an inspiring and motivating event!

  4. Oh the CF language ROCKS ;-) LOVE IT! What an amazing experience rockstar!

  5. Holy hams and glutes! These posts make me want to try CrossFit. I’d love a CF for beginners post.

  6. Rich Froning is amazing and so gorgeous but Matt Chan is awesome! He is my cousin’s crossfit coach in Denver…now I am thinking I need to plan a trip out there to workout with them!!

  7. So jealous!! That is amazing!! I am going to be integrating more Crossfit into my marathon training schedule once my kids are back int school. Right now I do my own WOD work-outs and have added some weight training too. The difference it has made is incredible!! Thanks for sharing this. By the way I have been doing your GNC work-outs too. LOVE THEM!!!

  8. I spent the whole weekend watching the webcast on espn3. There were so many TWSSs that I eventually gave up because there was no one here to high five me. It was super-awesome to watch, very inspirational, and I hope to someday be a part of a crossfit gym!

  9. Holy OMG I don’t even know where to start. Such an awesome experience for you all but those pictures? Amazing.

  10. Your recap IS AWESOME, so detailed and interesting! I am NOT a CF’er but I love reading about it and seeing the workouts…very cool and again, your body looks ridiculously awesome! Keep it up sister!

  11. This is so fascinating, really interesting to read this recap, eventhough I have no idea about half of what you are talking about with the specific moves they do! I have heard that some people incorporate CrossFit with marathon training, I’d love to hear more about this if you know how people do that, and if it is found to be beneficial to the running.

  12. WOOOOWWW you are so inspirational keep kickin a** girl!!

It looks like it was a complete blast!

  15. I have loved all the crossfit posts as Im so…new (sounds better than clueless) when it comes to all this!

  16. What I want to know is this… has anyone ever gotten so hot and bothered doing CrossFit that they shot their WOD doing ‘the girls’?
