2012 CrossFit Games: AMRAP

How do I begin to put together an adequate summary of a weekend of this magnitude?!

We were treated to a presentation and WOD by Reebok.

Reebok’s Director of Fitness, Chris Froio, discussed the company’s new found fitness culture.

Reebok is striving to become the fitness apparel brand and partnering with the sport of CrossFit certainly makes sense.
Functional movement. Improve lives. Move naturally.
I was very impressed and had never worn Reebok clothing before this weekend. I was certainly missing out.

My FitFluential friends and I tested our gear at a CrossFit Marina WOD.

Our ultra fit CrossFit coaches Lauren and Blair.

Blair finished 5th overall in the 2011 Games. And, I just want to  look like Lauren, plus she rocks.

They took us through a dynamic warm-up, kettle bell, burpee, and squat instructions, then we did our WOD (workout of the day).

12 minutes AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)
7 burpees
7 squats
7 kettle bell swings
Parking lot sprints

Oh, it was fun. I’m so addicted to CrossFit its ridiculous.
After lunch, we made our way to the games to watch the Fittest on Earth compete. The level of athleticism, determination and camaraderie at the The CrossFit Games is sheer inspiration.
I got chills witnessing the women that already finished cheering on their competitors to finish.

Burpee to Muscle-up?  I can’t think of a meaner pair of exercises. This was part of the Chipper WOD, the final event on Saturday.

Tina, Heather and I had a nice view from the GNC suite.
Watching Stacie Tovar from CrossFit Omaha compete. She radiates positive energy!

Taking a break from the action to refuel with
Total Lean 25 shake.

GNC endorsed athlete, Nate Schrader on the men’s Clean ladder.

Iceland Annie, Fittest Woman on Earth, two years in a row, performing thrusters during the Chipper.

She’s the woman you see challenging Chad Ochocinco in the Reebok commercials.Chipper WOD:
For time:
10 Overhead squats (155 / 105 lbs)
10 Box jump overs (24” / 20” box)
10 Fat bar thrusters, (135 / 95 lbs)
10 Power cleans (205 / 125 lbs)
10 Toes to bar
10 Burpee muscle-ups
10 Toes to bar
10 Power cleans (205 / 125 lbs)
10 Fat bar thrusters, (135 / 95 lbs)
10 Box jump overs (24” / 20” box)
10 Overhead squats (155 / 105 lbs)

CrossFit fans love the sport. This community is amazing.

Kyle Kasperbauer (#SpecialK) shown below, trains at CrossFit Omaha with Stacie.

Rich Froning, Fittest Man on Earth, winning the Chipper. He never seems fatigued–how is that possible?!

My coach, Addi, from my first official CrossFit experience was there too.
Are you one of many individuals that are intimidated by CrossFit?

Here’s the thing; it’s scale-able for any fitness level. Universal movements incorporating flexibility and strength are used to make sure you can be strong for decades.

Once you experience a WOD at a CrossFit box, I can almost guarantee you will be hooked and fall in love with a community that welcomes anyone looking to improve with open arms.

  2. i felt like i was there, so thank you! so amazing, strong, and just awesome!

  3. It was an amazing weekend! Thank you for sharing with us all weekend, I felt like I was there!

  4. Seriously — when I saw them cheering on their competiors that hadn’t finished, it literally gave me goosebumps, chills, and tears in my eyes. These women CARE. Not just about themselves and their OWN personal goals…. but about everyone in the community being the best that they can be. That’s what I love about the sport. Everyone pushes each other to get it done, be their own best, and generally kick ass. It’s an amazing and beautiful thing.

  5. OMG. AMAZING! I am so with Katelyn, so emotional – what an absolutely killer community. I hope too to get involved in my local & the worldwide CF community more seriously! And that WOD – definitely throwing that into my workouts this week!!!! Thanks for sharing rockstar :-D SO excited for u!!

  6. I watched online and it was AWESOME! I was given a free month to CrossFit and LOVED it. I may have to find a CrossFit gym once we move.

  7. So cool!

  8. Awesome post, Jess! It was so, so great to meet you :) Hope you had as much fun as I did, and hope to see you there again next year!

  9. How awesome Jess, looks like you had an amazing time! I might have to watch you workout one time at the Omaha ‘box’ (I think that’s what you call it?!). Can’t wait to hear about it in person, run date is necessary :)

  10. This post is just infused with your excitement about CrossFit and the Games–awesome! I feel it, too. Thank you for being the eyes and ears for all your followers at the Games!

I’ve been doing CrossFit for almost 6 months and don’t understand the negativity toward it–some from good friends and even family. But I’m completely amped up on the kool-aid and keep sharing my enthusiasm about it.

Intimidated by CrossFit? Yes, actually, I still am. Wanna guess what our coach programmed for today?

We get an 8-minute cap on each and a 5-minute break between. So, yeah, I’m intimidated. And I love it. And I’ll feel that amazing rush after it’s over, when I can say I’m stronger.

  11. Love it…and it’s so great to live your excitement! I’ve been watching recap videos all morning!!!! Dang, I wish I was there!

  12. What an awesome opportunity! It was so inspiring to catch bits and pieces of this all weekend, and follow the tweets.
Um, yes, I think I fall into that inimidated category- but I found a cross fit box near us that has a free trial, and I’m determined to check it out!

  13. There is CrossFit at my gym included in my membership. Guess I should check it out :) Looks like you were having a lot of fun spectating!

  14. I didn’t see any this year, though I watched some last year – Iceland Annie is awesome! Looked like a great time!

  15. I totally want to try this out. And yes, I’m intimidated to go try it out!

  16. What a really great write up! I am very interested in the idea of Cross Fit. One of my former hs classmates is now “Level 1″ certified? Not sure exactly what all that entails as I’m sure you understand, she said she can coach now? I am so curious about this! I have two more half marathons to do this year and then I need to re-evaluate my fitness methods. Will I keep running or start doing more cross training? I just don’t know yet … all I know is that I want to keep fit while I age and go with methods that keep me interested/motivated yet are safe as you get older. Cross Fit seems like it has a lot going for it!

  17. soo happy you had such an amazing weekend Jess! :) “R” & I were in Vegas Sat-Mon & when we were walking thru the hotels all the T.V.’s had the crossfit games on. We sat & watched for a little while & I was so amazed at how incredible these athletes are! their strength & stamina is incredible! xo

  18. AMAZING. I am floored by the supportive spirit. People could learn a lot from CrossFit on so many different levels.

  19. I really need to give Crossfit a chance for sure. So manypeople love it. And reading all your post and hearing your love about it Iam sure I will like it pretty well!

  20. Jess, love your WOD! Been making my co-workers do them with me! On the one you show above, how far is the parking lot sprint? And how many times? Thanks!

  21. I have to admit, I was intimidated by Crossfit before giving it a try. I like it, but don’t love it.
