Fitness Friday: BEAST Mode

Last week, I shared the Feisty 50 at home workout with you. This week’s torture workout doesn’t disappoint either [cue evil laugh].

Spencer and I did this together, and it took us about 55 minutes. That’s a long time for a workout of this intensity.

I’ll give you a moment to let that sink in.

Not too bad right? Only 4 rounds and you just add 200m to each run.

First round of ball slams, clean & press, and alternating straight leg/arm crunches, we thought,

“Yeah. We’re so hard core.”
After that, we didn’t speak. We were focused on breathing.
“Who created this workout?!”

 Oh, yeah.

You’ll note that we weren’t in the fat burning zone much, but rather what the NSCA considers the performance training zone.

My heart rate was pushing 165-170 for a majority of this workout which is pretty high for me! Heart rate zones are controversial. Either way, we were approaching our max effort.

It made a relaxing walk with Cooper so rewarding.

Cooper helps me move more every day.

What are you doing this weekend?
-Oh, I’ll be at the baseball field which I’m thankful for–that means Spencer is home.

What would you name the next workout I create for Fitness Friday?
-I’ll pick one and be sure to give you credit!

  9. Can I just cut it to 30 clean and press between the running? This looks too hard. ha! You can call it Too hard for Raina . :)

  10. Awesome, killer workout Jess!!! You amaze me. Great job! :)

  11. Great workout! It’s way too hot for me to do that workout right this minute…no A/C in my garage gym. But, will try in the am when it’s cool-er.
Hmm, this weekend we are helping out with scoring and concession at my son’s high school wrestling event and hitting up some backyard bbq as well as The Salt Lick for birthday BBQ.

Your next Friday workout should be: Balls to Wall for it’s intensity and if you are indeed incorporating wall balls. Haha. I thought of that yesterday afteroon as I was dripping with sweat going all out with HIIT sprints on the treadmill, ofcourse in the afternoon…garage gym…93 degrees!

  12. BEAST MODE….I love it, seriously! Love sweaty back workouts and your Blonde Ponytail/braid is so long, I am jealous! We are doing a 1/2 marathon and then eating all day long on Saturday wahoo!

  13. Um, wow that workout looks INSANE!! I dunno if I’d be able to make it through it haha. Awesome job :). This weekend my fiance will be in town so I get to spend a bunch of quality time with him!!

  14. Family visiting this weekend. So baseball, pool, and eating. You should call your next workout: Dirty thirty.

  15. I love when you post a nice workout I can take DIRECTLY into bootcamp the next day :D I should give you a commission :p

  16. Type A Julie says:

Will I sound like a moron if I ask what repeat 30′s are? Once I know I’m on it!

  17. Type A Julie says:

Thank you. I always welcome an a$$ kicking! I’ll let you know how it goes. FYI, I’m a new trainer and love perusing your sight for ideas, especially for my own workouts!

  18. Sara man says:

This was my first workout with you. I modified it by doing 20 reps instead of 30. But in the last set I did the full 30 reps. It took me 1 hour and I burnt 684 calories!!! Holy cow! And only 18% fat according to my monitor. That was wicked. Thanks!!

    • Sara, that is awesome–this is a TOUGH one. My hubby and I created BEFORE trying it for time–really hard, but UBER effective!

  19. This looks great! What is a good alternate for the sand bag throws? I don’t have a sandbag to throw or ball!
Natalie recently posted..Granola bar cars!My Profile

    • If you don’t have a medicine ball, you could sub deep squats with an overhead lift. The throw downs really target your core, so that’s why I love them–plus your heart is jumping out of your chest! ha ha!! ;)

  20. How fast did you run the repeats?
