Working out on the road has its challenges but with planning you can make it happen. This Fitness Friday workout can be done anywhere.
I already shared the the best way to improve your sex life.
Accordingly, here is your assignment:
We completed this workout on the Stanford field hockey turf in the morning, and it was already warm!
- Full Burpees
- Plank Jacks
- Hand Release Push-ups
- Prisoner squat with knee tuck (works obliques)
This was a quick, but intense workout.
We ran a 1 mile warm-up to campus, completed an 8 minute dynamic stretching routine, and tackled this.
I stripped off my tank top mid-way through (opted to keep my shorts on) and went full-on Juno bra. It’s my favorite high impact sports bra. Locked and loaded.
I can’t remember exactly, but I think the actual WOD took us 15-20 minutes. No real rest, just enough to catch your breath.
The baseball team stayed an extra day to play Cal in Berkeley, so I got to connect with my favorite, thigh-high, maternity tight wearing runner.
We spent over 30 hours together in a van during Hood to Coast last year and I loved every freaking minute of it! Never a dull moment.
XLMIC took me on a tour of Berkeley. We saw where she grew up, the house where LSD was born, etc. You know, the normal things in a neighborhood.
| Massive hill in SF |
Then, she showed me some of the +20% grade hills she runs. Unreal! I’m never complaining about hills again.
And, as a HUGE baseball fan, I must share this Harvard Baseball video on Call Me Maybe. Hilarious!

Do you like running sprints [repeats]?
Are there hills where you live?

OMG. Can you say “Fitness model shots”?! Freaking a, girl!
I miss sprinting…a lot. Lol!
Ha! Thank you and you are TOO kind! Sprints are fun…when they are over;) he he!
You are ripped chica!!!! You should be a fitness model- you have the looks AND the muscles.
That hill looks pretty insane. I would die if I had to run up it all the time. There are some hills in Spokane, but not like that. I guess Doomsday Hill would be the closest thing to that monster in San Fran.
Omigosh–you are too kind. It was just good lighting
The SF hills are INSANE! Holy leg work!!
Great workout! I might have to do this one soon!
Let me know how it goes!
XLMIC’s hill looks brutal. I have to go a bit of a distance to hit any major hills, which leaves me tired already. But, I should focus more on hill work, because it WILL make me faster.
I know right?! Bay area hills are no joke–I need to do more too. Pinky swear we both get after it?!
awesome workout! think ill try it out today! think ill do regular pushups and just overhead squats since im preggers….but still sounds like a good, hard workout-thanks!
Good call on the variations!!
Fantastic workout! Gotta get that one into the routine soon.
How fun that you met up with XL! yeah, her hills look tough. We have plenty where I live also, something I both appreciate and hate sometimes–finding flat isn’t always easy.
Have a great weekend!
I agree with you on hills! Yes, Xl is ALWAYS a blast!!
Nice!!! See you tomorrow!!
Looking forward to it! First pitch!
You look AMAZING!!! I am striving for some “guns” like yours until I can start running again ! I have learned to love hills especially after Boston training.
Aw! Thank you–I attribute my arms to the HIIT classes I’m teaching–Upper body and core have never felt stronger!
I love HIIT workouts. I have definitely noticed a difference in my physique since I started doing them. My first marathon was Nike Women’s in 2010. I couldn’t walk for a week. The only hills in South Florida are curbs. J/k, we have a few bridges, not anything to prepare for a race in San Fran! You are ripped, sister!
holy shit girl. look at your shoulders! you are a badass!
REITERATES Cat’s comments.
BEST ALL THANGS INCLUDING SMARTWISE BRAIN.
BEST ARMS EVER.
and mine

I just moved to flat suburbia USA to hilly suburbia USA. Its so crazy. I hate the hills but they sure are making me work harder, I’m gonna be zooming on straight flat runs. I used to think a 10 feet elevation change was a hill. Not anymore 50 feet is the new normal. So crazy!
I know you are a fitness girl, but as a life-long athlete that just graduated college, how would you recommend staying committed to working out?
This is always a challenge, but you HAVE to find something you LOVE! Then, go for it! Group classes may be a good start!
Just stumbled upon your website and I’m loving it. I, too, am a NE. I will for sure be following you. I have goals of becoming a Crossfit instructor………
